FAILED BACK SYNDROME TREATMENT AND RELIEF
Spine Health defines failed back syndrome as a condition patients may experience in which their back surgery did not help alleviate their back pain. There are several reasons as to why back or pain surgery was unsuccessful, in fact, this type of surgery is said to work completely about 95% of the time. At Non-Surgical Spine Center, in Mt. Pleasant, SC we want to help you lessen the pain that comes with failed back syndrome. Imagine: living a life free of pain!
Unfortunately, there are not many ways to avoid failed back syndrome besides finding a surgeon that is well-experienced and trusted to perform your surgery.

Types of Back Surgeries
Certain surgeries are more or less likely to succeed and therefore have varying influence on whether or not the patient will develop failed back syndrome. For example, a disectomy lumbar disc herniation that is causing leg pain is a predictable, relatively easy procedure. However, a discectomy for a lumbar disc herniation that is causing lower back pain is less likely to be successful and therefore it is more likely for a patient to have failed back syndrome. Additionally, a spine fusion for spinal instability has a high chance of being successful while a fusion surgery for multi-level lumbar degenerative disc disease has a lower chance of success.
The more our patients understand what’s causing their failed back syndrome, the more quickly the Non-Surgical Spine Center can address these issues and work towards eliminating our patients’ pain.
Causes of failed back syndrome:
- The lesion that was operated on during surgery was not the cause of the patient’s pain.
