Scrambler Therapy is a highly specialized non-invasive treatment that helps retrain the way your brain interprets pain and numbness. During each session, we place small electrodes (EKG-like patches) near the area of your discomfort. The FDA-cleared medical device then sends out gentle electrical signals that effectively “scramble” the pain messages going to your brain replacing them with “non-pain” information.

Improve Quality of Life

Effective, Non-Invasive Solution

Consultation
At your first appointment, we focus on you. Dr. Alexander listens to your questions, concerns, and health history to understand where your pain or numbness comes from. We may perform additional testing to determine if Scrambler Therapy is right for you.

Treatment
Scrambler (CALMARE) therapy involves placing EKG-like electrodes on your skin over the dermatomal pattern of your pain or numbness. When we turn the medical device on, it runs through a one hour cycle replacing the abnormal nerve signals going to your brain and scrambling them into normal “pain free” signals. It effectively alters the brain’s perception of your pain and numbness rewiring the chronic pain response.
It’s like taking the dimmer switch on your chronic pain and numbness and turning it way down.

Results
Most patients begin to experience improvement of their symptoms during the recommended two week treatment regimen and continue to improve upon completion. As with all medical treatments, results cannot be guaranteed. However, for the numerous patients dealing with chronic pain and numbness that respond favorably to scrambler therapy, the results can be life changing.

At NSSC, we use Scrambler Therapy for treatment of pain and numbness in Charleston that goes well beyond simple aches or discomfort. It helps multiple conditions where the nerves send chronic pain or numbness signals to the brain, even after the original injury or irritation may have healed.
Common conditions we treat include:
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Burning, tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands and feet.
- Sciatica and Radiculopathy: Sharp or radiating pain down the legs or arms.
- Failed Back Surgery Syndrome: Ongoing pain despite history of surgery.
- Chronic Back and Neck Pain: Chronic spinal pain that resists other care treatments.
- Post-Surgical or Post-Traumatic Nerve Pain: Unrelenting painful conditions following surgery or injury like CRPS/RSD or chronic joint pain even after surgery.
Because Scrambler Therapy retrains how the brain interprets nerve signals, it can be effective for many types of chronic pain and numbness that do not respond well to medications, injections, or surgery.
